The statement that multi-cultural societies are mixtures of ethnic groups is too vulnerable to be supported. In general, people may think diversity starts from various ethnic groups. But in reality I have a number of counterexamples to argue against their thinking. In this essay, I will express my opinion and two clear examples to back up it.
To begin with, there is diverse culture in one ethnic group. I find that the single ethnic group forms multi-cultural societies inside the group, although it is well-known to have a bias against another ethnic group. Dancing, for example, was considered to be a taboo fifteen years ago. So most dancing people gathered to dance together in hidden places such as a dead-end dirty bar or suburban area. Even they, sometimes, cheated on their partners. But now dancing becomes one of top dreams to get fame and wealth. Quite a number of female juveniles put their dream into a dancer like Jamelia of Superstar, one of famous music. Many years ago, dancing in Korea was roughly recognized as a taboo and parents prevented their children from dancing. But as people Crew, a Korean B-boy team, won first grade in World B-Boy Dance Performance held in Paris three years ago, Dancing in Korea get a spotlight and Korean people begin to accept diversity in our society. For this reason, it is not wrong to say that I find diverse perspectives in Korea composed of a single ethnic group for last two thousand years.
Next, people are likely to share many things and adapt each other, if they live together for a long time. If people with different ethnic backgrounds spend their time together, they(people) are alike slowly and steadily. (spend 의 용법상 사람이 나올고 시간이 나올때는 어떤 행위도 나와야 합니다.) Best example is about one documentary broadcasted on BBC last year. The documentary was to describe(d) initially different but later similar life styles and mind of each ethnic group. As white people entered to live in North Pole, they maintained their own life pattern to buy(ing) food at a supermarket. But later they changed to hunt animals such as a deer and polar bear; this hunting(that) is a representative way to live. Its change is similar with (that of) Inuit’ living in North Pole from long times ago. So, I can say that there is non-various cultures in different ethnic groups.
To summarize, people do not forget the fact that single ethnic group has various cultures inside, even though multi-cultural societies exist in a variety of ethnic groups. Such diversity rigidly exists in a single ethnic groups as well as mixture of different groups.
