Some argue that environmental pollution can be resolved only through global efforts. I also agree with this idea, and this essay will explain my opinion and give some examples.
To begin with, I agree with the idea that a country is able to make effective efforts to lessen pollution. Governments can enact environmental regulations and laws, or enforce taxes on people and companies that cause air pollution to control the amounts of exhaust gas that factories emit and the number of cars on the road. These may help improve the air quality in the country. Moreover, countries could encourage people to recycle items, (comma) such as paper and bottles or use recycled products. These would be quite helpful for the countries that do not have enough space for accumulating trash by reducing the number of landfills.
However, there are many universal environmental problems that one country cannot solve. For example, South Koreans people suffer from yellow dust which blows from the Yellow River in China on the westerlies. This phenomenon could not be solely solved by South Korea, but it could be done with the cooperative efforts between the two countries. In addition, some scientists worry that global warming is becoming worse due to the deforestation of the Amazon, which plays a significant role in the absorption of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and production of oxygen. The amount of greenhouse gases that resulted from the forest’s destruction is known to be almost equal to that of the exhaust emissions coming from transports all over the world. I believe that the deforestation could be stopped by the cooperation among countries and the forceful international environmental regulations.
In summary, even though the effort that one nation makes to reduce pollution might bring positive effects to its local environment, I believe that the fundamental solutions should be established on the basis of cooperative endeavors among countries worldwide.
