At the beginning of the period, the rate of households renting accommodation was nearly 80% of the total while that of households purchasing house accounted for one-fifth. However, the gap between these figures had remarkably narrowed until in1961, showing by 20 percentage points, and these figures ended up encounter at the same rate at 50% each.
In the second half of the period, the percentage of households owing house surpassed that of people who rented a house starting in 1981, which was 60% and 40%, respectively. These figures gap had widened from by 20 percentage points in 1981 to by 40% in 2001. However, the gap between the percentage of the form of owing and renting the house somewhat narrowed to by around 35 percentage points at the end of the period.
