As the use of portable devices which can play a game
increased, many people have different views about the usage of it. While some
people argue that the prevalent use of entertaining devices has a negative
effect on both individuals and the society, other say that it has a benefit. I
believe that the availability of entertainment has both benefits and drawbacks
at the same time. On the one hand,
by activating video games, face to face communication between society members
might decrease. For example, many adolescents spend their time to play a game
which is accessed by a handheld equipment in any place at any time, if they
want. As a result, this behaviour makes them to isolate from their family and
contacts between family members are reduced. Moreover, the increase of violent
and exiting contents in entertainments causes social problems such as crimes.
Some people who excessively are addictive to the violent video game might not
distinguish the real space from the virtual space and they try to imitate the
situation what they saw in the video game. Consequently, sometimes this
confusion leads to a serious crime like murder. On the other hand,
entertainment is a good method to make new friends from various countries.
Connection with other users enables to expand understanding about different
cultures and improves communication skills. In addition, video games have a
positive effect on health in both mental and physical aspects. People can wind
down when they play a game by escaping from a stressful situation. Meanwhile,
many companies develop a new game genre which requires physical activities such
as running. Therefore, people can enhance their physical performance using
portable video games.
In conclusion,
while entertainment like portable video games has a negative influence on
communication within a family and generates a social problem, I opine that it
triggers the expansion of personal connection and improves the health problem.
