Overall, the UK's averages are is the highest, whereas Portugal's averages are is the lowest throughout the years. Italy and Sweden had the third and second highest averages respectively, however the rank between both countries crossed over in 1986.
First of all, although the UK has the highest averages throughout the years, the averages decreased constantly, starting at about 11 metric tonnes and finishing at just under 9 metric tonnes. Conversely, Portugal has an upward trend, increasing significantly from just above 1 metric tonnes to under 6 metric tonnes with 1967 being the lowest point at about 1.2 metric tonnes during the whole given periods.
Moving to Italy and Sweden, both countries' averages crossed over in 1987. Sweden was the second highest country for the CO2 averages until 1987, however, after that year, Italy took the place of Sweden, being the second highest country for the figures. After 1987, Sweden's averages decreased constantly, finishing at under 6 metric tonnes, whereas Italy's averages increased until 1997 to just under 8 metric tonnes, and remained so in 2007.
