These days, the work and life balance is one of the most
pressing issues all around the world. I will discuss some reasons of this
problem and suggest two solutions.
The extremely hard competition culture would be the most
important factor which prevents people from balancing between their work and
life outside their workplaces. In other words, it has become hard not only for
young adults to enter the employment but also for workers to survive in their
companies compared to the past. This is because many corporations in the world
are trying to reduce the number of employees since the global financial crisis
in 2008. In addition, a number of jobs are being replaced by the cutting edge
technology. In particular, the autonomus car and machine are depriving people
of job opportunities. Therefore, people tend to work hard to prove their skill
and values in the workplaces, losing much time to spend enjoying their daily
life.
I think that two ways could be effective to cope with the
work and life balance issue. First solution is the government's regulations
which encourage to limit working hours. In South Korea, for example, a new
working hour policy limiting it to 52 hours has provided workers with much time
with their family members and friends. Besides, the robot tax would be a great
way to deal with this problem. By imposing taxes on the machine and giving the
fund to citizens, workers may gain time to enjoy their lives, while they do not
worry about the financial problem.
In conclusion, I believe that the unbalance between work and
other part of lives would be brought out by the intensive competition culture
which has been constructed by the new working environment. In response to this
issue, I maintain that labor regulations for working hours and the robot tax
can be helpful.
