Recently, many museums serve virtual museum tour programms using the internet. Like this, since the introduction and development of IT technology, people who lives away from museums can look through and enjoy them online. While some people think that museums will be no longer necessary due to the internet, I think museums are vital for humankind.
First of all, museums cannot be substituted by the information online since they play a role to preserve priceless remains and exhibit them to the public in person. If there is no museum, valuable heritage will be exposed to the danger. Not only that, online content about the remains cannot serve the details of them. That is, the internet is only the method to improve museum visitors’ experience by serving information through it, not the way to replace museums.
On top of that, museums not only protect remains but also act as educational institutes in local community. One of the increasing task of museums is providing of academic courses related to culture and history. In fact, many programms are being conducted by museums to enhance the cultural levels of local community. People can be taught about their region’s history with appreciating related remains, which is very effective way to unite the community. Therefore, it is undeniable that museums cannot be replaced by the internet.
To sum up, as technology has been improved, the role of museums has also been developed significantly, too. Therefore, museums will keep its necessity of protecting valuable heritage and providing academic education to local community.
