‘Happiness’
has been thought as one of the difficult subjects to be defined. Although innumerable
philosophers have been tried to elucidate it since ancient Greece, mankind is
still not able to answer the question, ‘What is happiness?’. In this essay, the
reason why happiness is hard to be defined and the essential elements underlie
happiness will be shared. Research has shown
that the definition of happiness is different to every single person. Some
people think that happiness comes from money as it enables people to buy extravagant
cars, live in a fabulous house and so on. On the contrary, there are a number
of people who consider that health is the fundamental composition of
happiness because the exceptional body condition allows humans to enjoy their
hobbies and exercise, furthermore, people would barely have opportunities to spend
their money in incentive care unit in a hospital. What is more, happiness should
be accompanied with one’s surroundings. Which means that, if someone’s one of
family member is suffering from a critical illness which may cause death, he
would hard to say that he is absolutely happy. According to
the examples above, it seems almost impossible to give the exact meaning of
happiness, nevertheless, there are common beliefs that many people might agree. Firstly, human
needs necessities in life that are ‘clothes, foods, shelter’. Clothes help people
to adjust their body temperature from the harsh environment and cover the part
of their body to protect themselves. Food may prevent the tragic death from starving
and shelter block intruders who trespass and intend to attack. Secondly, interacting
with other people can be one of the sources of happiness. People normally pursue
to have connections such as relatives and friends by sharing their experiences
and fortune in life, hence, we can rarely find a completely isolated person who
is completely happy. To conclude,
although happiness is difficult to be defined due to its intricacies, the
necessities in human life and communicating with other people may allow human
to achieve happiness. |
