People have different views about the obligation of packaging. Some
people argue that manufacturers have a duty to reduce the amount of materials used
in packaging. However, others said that the responsibility to decline the useless
package is belong to customers. In this essay, I will discuss both opinions and
give my own one.
On
the one hand, a number of companies tend to use packaging as a marketing strategy.
Packaging of product is a powerful method to advertise a product and
distinguish it from other products. By using various packaging materials, such
as plastic bags or boxes with bright colors, companies make their products as an
outstanding item and attract people. Meanwhile, supermarkets encourage customers
to use it to use plastic bags which is hard to recycle when they buy a fresh
fruit or vegetable, even though they do not want to use a plastic bag.
On
the other hand, it is obvious that many people prefer to buy small scale products
recently and manufacturers reflect this trend to their packaging strategies.
The amount of packaging increased according to the increase of one-person household
and nuclear family. For instance, one-person household is preferable to deliver
food instead of cooking themselves. In addition, the wise use of courier service
is also one of the reasons to promote the excessive packaging. Given this phenomenon,
if customers pursue environmentally friendly packaging or attempt to buy less
decorated goods, companies reform their packaging strategy to cope with the reduced
demand about package.
In
conclusion, the responsibility about excessive packaging is now one of the most
conversational issues that people like to debate. While companies tend to use
packaging to attract people’s attention, I believe that the preference of customers
caused by the change of family form triggers the excessive packaging.
Therefore, customers have a duty to reduce packaging by purchasing a product with
less decorated. |
