It has been a heated debate on whether the use of the Internet has a positive effect on life in today’s world. Some argue that disadvantages of the Internet outweigh advantages. However, I firmly believe that the widespread use of the Internet brings benefits to consumers, offers expeditious news, and provides an equal educational opportunity.
To begin with, the birth of the Internet market spawned a low price and a high quality product for shoppers. It is a common practice to go online before going to a conventional market in order to get something at a cheapest price. Since many independents as well as companies jumped into the Internet market, numerous shopping sites have fiercely competed. Purchasers started to compare the same product over the Internet. Consequently, to convince more users, manufacturers focused more on costs and high quality. People are, therefore, given to better choices.
Further, people can get their head around what happens in the world at the moment things happen. In the past, people heavily rely on few news outlets such as TV, newspapers, or radio. Despite its informative contents, it is too punctual to deliver instantaneously. With the universal use of the Internet, folks are able to learn urgent matters quickly and timely. Naver, one of the main search engines in Korea, shows almost 90 news medias on its web feed. With a few clicks, it is so much convenient to connect to the world.
On top of that, Internet provides students with an equal chance of education. Before live streaming lecture emerged, only affluent household had had their kids be tutored or learn extra classes. As instruction by Internet is available, students who are poor, in remote area, or cannot afford school are enabled to study as much equivalent as students who are in better environment. A case in point, EBS, educational broadcasting system in South Korea, a state-run company, has encouraged Internet or television instruction free to reduce regional education inequality.
To sum up, the extensive use of the Internet has a positive impact on life in today’s world. It contributed to customers’ benefit, real-time news delivering, and educational fair opportunity.
