For decades, affordable housing has been an issue amongst the poor. In this regard, it is often argued that the government should consider to make more houses available for them. However, I disagree with this statement, and in this essay, I will discuss its reasons.
Problems such as homelessness are relatively new problems caused by economic development. There are already many unsolved problems that has existed, and they should firstly be addressed. This is because old problems that are medical and educational are complex to deal with and require more money to be solved. The government should only spend their money to prevent further homeless problems. This might be effective because the number of homelesses is not very large as they are mostly live in large cities.
Also, a causal factor for homeless is not lack of house, and their problem cannot be solved simply by having empty buildings. The real reasons are unemployment and increased price of already expensive residences in busy cities. Before focusing on homeless support, the government should create more job positions for more people and should regulate property in general so that more workers can afford their own houses with their income. Thus, housing problems should be eased with more than one solution.
In conclusion, the government should have a better solution than offering free houses to less affordable people. They should care about their cities as well as their citizens because homeless can disappear from the street but would still be in the city. |
