The pie charts illustrate the reasons why people visited art museums in 1990 and 2000 in Great Britain.
Overall, it is clear that learning and gaining knowledge was notably the most common purpose for visiting art museums in both years. The proportions of most categories were relatively evenly distributed, except art buying purposes and others category. Also apparent is that the share of people visited to fill their travel schedules had experienced the great change.
Looking at the charts more closely, one can see that the largest category, to learn and gain knowledge, made up the almost half of the total in the given years. The proportions of people who visited to attend a special exhibit and spend time with their friends and family were exactly the same in 1990 and both increased a bit in 2000, 6% points and 5% points, respectively. In contrast, people who had purpose to fill the travel schedule reduced quite a lot, with their proportions nearly halved in 2000. The percentage of purposes to buy art and to do something else remained as the smallest categories in both 1990 and 2000. The share of people who visited museum to buy art, which comprised the minor category in 1990, had increased to 4% in 2000, while the others category had dropped to 3%.
