▶ Your Answer :
The graph illustrates the amount of
products transported by road, water, rail, and pipeline in the UK over the
research period from 1974 to 2002.
As clearly seen from the chart, road was
the most popular used transportation for the entire period. Water and rail had
similar figures at 38 million and 40 million tones respectively, followed by pipeline
at 5 million tones at the beginning of the period.
In detail, the quantities of goods
transported by road had an upward trend, reaching to just under 100 million
tones in 2002 although there were slight falls from 1978 to 1981 and from 1991
to 1995. The amount of products transported by water experienced an increase
until 1991, overtaking that by rail in 1978. The figure increased significantly
to around 65 million tones after remaining stable for over 15 years. In
contrast, the quantities by rail showed a downward trend until 1995, rising
back to the 1974 figure by 2002. Turning to pipeline, there was a gradual rise
to over 20 million tones, with remaining constantly at the end of the period.
According the figures provided, with the
exception of the case by rail, the entire amount of products transported rose
for the time period.
