The given tables compare sales in
Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in the year 1999 and 2004 in five European
countries; UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden. Unit is measured in
million Euros.
As can be seen in the first table, coffee
sales increased in all countries researched in the given period of time.
Especially, sales amount surged in the UK more than ten times in five years from
1.5 to 20. On the contrary, an increasing trend in sales of coffee was gradual
in Denmark and Sweden with 0.2 million Euros in the give time period.
The sales in bananas also showed an in upward
trend in all countries, except Denmark having a drop in sales amount by 1.1.
Switzerland ranked at the top having banana sales at 15 and 47 in both 1999 and
2004 respectively, with a huge margin to the second tear. Sales in bananas
considerably grew in the UK from 1 in 1999 to 5.5 in 2004.
To sum up, sales in both coffee and bananas
shows similar trends in five European countries observed.
