The new media like newspaper, TV and Internet based media have become an important part of everyday life. However from the perspective of some people, this aspect has a negatively affect on society. I believe that mass media does more beneficial than harm to the society.
The most vital role of mass media is delivering information and message to people though a variety of form such as print, broadcast and online. By using Internet, it is possible to assess any news with rapid speed. The benefits people could gain from new media is that, it gives people to make decision easily. For example, when people try to going out for the outdoor activities or planning to go on a trip, first thing they do is checking a weather forecast though the news media. It gives us the news around us locally and internationally. With development of news media not only online but also offline, getting information has becoming faster and convenient to the majority.
On the other hand, media might sometimes be harmful to society. With increased a number of news media, they often exaggerate the magnitude of the real threat in order to draw the attention from more viewers. This make people confused that which is true or not. Moreover, many TV programme and newspaper has bad influence on young children since the new media tends to emphasize limited news such as celebrities’s daily life or advertising some products. There are more urgent issues that the public should know but the news media missed out for some reasons.
In conclusion, the news media has both positive and negative impact on the society. In my view, the development of news media could bring more advantages than disadvantages if they devote their responsibilities as a journalist with wise and appropriate ways.
