With the increase in concerns of health for
youngers, it can be argued that schools should teach them health through enough
curriculums. In my point of view, it seems to me that institutions do not
invest enough time to teach young people about health.
To begin with, it is true that today’s
schools are more focused (혹은 schools focus more on) on academic curriculums rather than practical studies study like
health. It is important for students to study math, language and history in
order to get a high-salary occupation for their future. Following this trend,
health subjects less supported by schools and the time for teaching is
decreasing. Although some physical activities and health subjects are allocated
in school time table, it is not enough for young students. Moreover, they are
mostly taught to those subjects by textbooks in a classroom, although more time for outdoor
activities in the playground should be necessary.
Correspondingly, students are no longer
interested in their health in this modern society, and they seek for better taste
and fancy package of the meal. In this regard, although they are taught that fast food
is harmful, they tend to consume those food for good taste. Ironically, students
can buy snacks contained which contain sodium and sugar and some or instant noodles in school,
since they are easy to access to by/from a banding machine in school cafeteria. In addition,
in the highly competitive society, they consume instant meals to save time and study for time-saving
and studying. For instance, in Korea, a lot of young students attend have at least two
kinds of institutions, so which they consume pizza or hamburger for dinner outside to fit their busy schedules.
They do not have enough time to have well-nutrient food and there are no other
choices for them.
In conclusion, even though schools teach
health subjects and encourage them to play outdoor activities, it seems to me
that it is not enough for young students. Schools should teach them more
practically in this competitive society.
