Schools today provide various learning opportunities to their students. Some countries believe that a general education should come first, while other countries think that schools should teach their students to be ready to work. In this essay, I will discuss why schools should more care about students’ careers now.
There are some subjects that can only be mastered at a young age. For language learning, for example, there is a tendency that children can learn many different languages more quickly and naturally. It is possible because their brains are designed that way. However, if they are not taught these kinds of subjects, they may would still have to learn after they grow up because language skills are a top job qualification today. Then even studying one language would not be easy. It is just physically impossible.
Practical subjects are also needed because it enables children to picture their future selves more clearly. A future self is like a destination of life of people. Especially for young children, a career would be where they arrive at in life. Practicing many things at school will help them know where their future will be and how far from where they are. Now there are more number of jobs than in the past, so it might take longer for job searching. Early education on career will shorten this time remarkably.
Moreover, equipping job skills at junior or senior high schools will help students guide themselves when they work in the future. When adults get a job, the first person who they meet at work is important because they determine the quality of the rest of their career life. Young children will be able to have more chances to meet career advisors if there are teachers at their school who can do the same. Today people change their jobs often, and there are not many people who can give advice about work. Long hours at schools will benefit children when the job learning is scheduled.
In conclusion, teaching job specific subjects at secondary schools will be more effective than a general education today. It allows students to have time to learn and people to learn from, that grown up workers cannot have at work. If today’s school children know how to be professionals, their today can be consistently connected to their future. |
