Your Answer ▼As result of society development, the opportunities of learning is getting easier and wider. However, there are still a noticeable number of people who is illiterate. In this essay, I would like to write about the drawbacks of this issue and the possible solutions.
To begin with, it is true that old generation especially was born in early the twentieth century had not any chances of learning writing or reading by their native language when they were young. A majority of people at the time could not go to school or any educational facilities because of the war or financial situation. Even though, they could not learn how to write or read, they were possible to have normal life as other people did. However, when people are getting old, they can eagerly be a target from criminal such as scammer, fraudster and counterfeiter. For example, there is an old lady who can not write or read in Korea, tried to have her own store for the first time in her life but she could not get the loan because she could not understand any of the content of contract. Therefore, she asked for her friend to help her with making a contract but she gave a fake contract paper to her and disappeared with all her money. It is sad story but unfortunately possible to happen to all the illiterate.
To reduce the illiteracy rate, prior understanding and research of the illiterate is effective. Apparently, people who is illiterate have financial difficulties and also some people might have limited freedom to transport. Not only making them to join the class but also operating visiting system to each person so that more people are able to get benefits from it. Moreover, in order to their physical and economic condition, they also could suffer from depression and lower self-esteem. It should be considered as a vital issue and the government and organization should make them to get regular medical assistance both physical and mental check-up.
In conclusion, although a majority of people easily can have educational opportunities in contemporary society, there are still vital a number of people who did not have chance to study and exposed to get through some crime and poverty. The government and organization should regard them as not only illiterate but also a disadvantaged group and make off-on efforts.
