People usually have divided views on whether animal experimentation can be justified or not. Many manufactures acclaim that it is beneficial since they do animal testing to ensure safety of their products. However, there are also drawbacks of this test because it harms animals severely.
On the one hand, it is true that animal experimentation has a positive effect on humans. Generally, Animals are widely used to determine that the newly invented drugs are safe before selling. It is essential to check every effect that the drugs may bring to human, but there is high risk to test them directly to human because it will cost a lot of money to cure the person who suffered from the side effects of the drug. Therefore, scientists do animal testing to find some vital side effects and avoid direct harmful impacts to people.
On the other hand, using animals in testing has several disadvantages. By using animals as a tool, people may have a thinking that humankind is superior than animals, so they can do animal experimentation only for cost-effectiveness and convenience, invading animals’ rights. Not just for medical purposes, some companies conduct experiments with animal for making money at less budget. Opposite to these companies, one of the global cosmetic brand called LUSH is holding a campaign to stop animal experimentation for human. They argue that there are another ways to ensure safety such as using verified natural resources in making cosmetic items.
To sum up, it is undeniable that animal testing has provided people with safe products. However, the issue about animals’ rights has been rising, which should be considered again.
