In some countries, secondary school aims to provide a general education across a range of subjects. In others, children focus on a narrow range of subjects related to a particular career. Which do you think is appropriate in today’s world?
There are various ways to educate students at secondary school. Some people believe that secondary school should provide a general education across a range of subjects. However, others assert that students focus on a narrow range of subjects. I support the first idea because of several reasons.
The one reason for this is secondary school students do not know what exactly they want to be. Some students may have decided on their future’s career. However, most students did not decide future’ career yet. They do not know what they want to be because they are still young and even they choose the jobs, their dream jobs often change. Students are still in need of instruction and education which can help children find their interested field. To find interested field, it is important to challenge and study a range of subjects.
Secondly, it does not have to decide a particular field at that age. When students enter a college or university, they need to choose one specific major. Even college students choose one specific major, many students change their major or they major two subjects because people do not choose just one job in these days. Moreover, a general education at secondary school will be general knowledge when people start to work at companies. Although people do not use all knowledge at a company, it will be the common sense. Therefore, various subjects at secondary school are necessary for children.
In conclude, students might be professional if they concentrate on specific subjects only. However, they know just that field. I think learning a range of subjects at secondary school is more advantage for students in the future.
