It is fact that the crime rates in the whole
world are going up and simultaneously the criminals' average ages are going
down. On other hand, the police powers are losing for many reasons. In these circumstances, some people insist
that to prevent rising crime rates, police should be given more power. In this
essay, I will explain why I agree with this opinion.
Police are the only organization in the
government that can help and protect the citizens from crime. If citizens are
threatened by criminals, they have no choice but to rely on the police.
However, when arresting criminals, today's police forces are limited by many
useless rules and media's critic. As a result, clever criminals use these
loopholes to commit crimes and are then released. In the end, more and more bad
people will laugh at the police force and it will certainly lead to citizen's
terror and the government will lose their trust from the public. South Korea is
currently the most accurate country for the example above. About 25 years ago,
the president ordered police to eliminate the political opposition and now,
many people still remember the corruption of the police back then and if the police
try to do their duty in a little rough way, they press the government with
great accusations. Eventually, the
government has weakened the nation's only security organization by creating
various and useless regulations to avoid angry voices from the public. As a
result, the police have become the most pathetic department in Korea, and even
juvenile offenders ignore and look down on them.
I
firmly insist that there is no vigilante like Batman in reality and the police
force is the only power that can protect citizens from criminals. Therefore, to
decrease crime rates, police should get more power. |
