Your Answer ▼ There are different opinions about competitive sports. Some individuals claim competitive spots are beneficial to adolescents in terms of their academic fields. On the other hand, opponents say that competitive sports bring detrimental effects on teenagers. In my opinion, I believe it is helpful for adolescents since sports can be a stimulant to study. To begin with, doing competitive sports moderately can help to enhance teenagers’ physical strength. Focusing on academic studies requires physical strength so that students can study longer in one spot. In addition, when students perform physical activities, they are eager to win and put their efforts. They can apply the concentration and competition that they use in competitive spots for studying. According to research conducted by Seoul National University in Korea, adolescents who like to participate in competitive sports such as soccer and basketball tend to have high academic achievements. Therefore, competitive sports can be beneficial. However, teenagers tend to be impressionable. If they lose competitive spots, it can have an influence on them. They will keep thinking about them losing the game and it makes them struggle to concentrate on their tasks. They are depressed and eventually, they will lose confidence and concentration. In that sense, competitive sports have negative effects on teenagers. However, from my point of view, competitive sports are somewhat similar to studying. Students cannot always achieve the result that they want. They are bound to hit bumps and during the process, they might feel depressed. Competitive sports can help them to learn about it and can be a stimulant as well as momentum. All things considered, even though there is a possibility that losing competitive sports can let teenagers down, students can increase their physical strength and concentration by doing competitive sports. Furthermore, since there is some similarity between competitive sports and their education, competitive sports can be a stimulant to teenagers. |
