There
have long been arguments over what field governments should pursue as their
most significant goal. Some say that economic progress has the priority over other
fields, while others claim that there are more sorts of progress which should
be considered as important as economic one is. This essay will discuss both
these points of view and give my own opinion.
On
the one hand, having economic strength is one of the most effective means to
enhance the levels of people’s living. Money not only can support individuals’ financial
requirements but also can be the force of development of any other field. To
illustrate, a rich country often considered as stronger than others because the
army of the country is fully supported with its adequate economic resources.
This can make the country safer, lowering the chance of being invaded by other
country. In addition, when the country allocates its budget to the ministry of
education, good human resources can be fostered and they may make great
contributions to the development of the country.
On
the other hand, it is quite compelling that other fields irrelevant to economy have
huge importance. There are necessary elements which prevent a country from the self-destruction.
A great example can be the field of law. Without fair and reasonable
regulations, the society can go catastrophic even the country has economic
power. The rules which protect weak people can lose their meaning when the laws
no more represent justice. Someone who has the power may exploit others, deepening
the economic gap between the strong and the weeks. To make it worse, it is
highly likely that the country may let the politicians seize itself, becoming
an autocracy.
In
conclusion, all things considered, I personally lean to the latter opinion that
some types of progress should have high importance as much as economic progress
does. Although economic progress can have considerably beneficial impacts on
countries, the development of a country cannot be drawn with the sole field. |
