The line graph compares three groups of travellers in terms of average money each visitor spent in New Zealand between 1997 and 2017.
Overall, the average amounts of daily spending by business, holiday and visiting freinds/famillies groups increased from 1997 to 2003, and decreased rapidly from 2003 to 2005. The graph shows relatively smaller changes between 2004 and 2017.
In 1997, business visitors spent the most money, at $255 per person on average, while visiting friends or relatives group spent the least, at $115 per person. Holiday visitors spent about the median amount of the other two groups at about $190 each on average. All three groups' average daily spend increased until 2003, but dropped rapidly from 2003 to 2005. In 2004 business group spent less than holiday group on average for the first time since 1997.
From 2004 to 2017 business and holiday group's spending showed fluctuation, ranging from 140 to 260 dollars per person. Holiday visitors spent about $250 in 2017, which is $40 more than the amount spent by business travellers. Visiting friends group consistently spent the lowest in the 20years period.
