▶ Your Answer :
How many hours have you been spending for studying math? Have you ever asked yourself why you need to study math and pass the math class to graduate the college? Why do we study math even though our major is not related with it? People say we study math to develop our ability what society demands. Most of students spend their times to study math, parents think being good at math means being good at study. School teaches students what society want for students to know. Some people believe that Korea’s education will develop students’ many abilities, however, it must also be recognized that education the school is offering causes to students to have less creativeness, have passive attitude and learn bad behaviers.
First, current Korea’s education reduces the creativeness of students. It does not allow students to study what they want, but what school wants. Each student has different ability, however, school teaches the same format to everyone, it causes students to be less interested in study and also reduce the creativeness of children. Sir Ken Robinson emphasizes that this education system has formed in past time, which does not fit to present days, asks the entire student to have the same thoughts but not creative thinking. Robinson also states that teaching art class is more important than teaching math or science.
Second, it also makes students have passive attitude. Have you ever find the mathematical formula by yourself? You must have been studying what teachers asked. Current education system has made students to receive the knowledge from teachers and schools, but not to try to find their own answers. Many studies show that most students tend to memorize the answers and formulas, but not understand the principles. They know the answers, but not why. In addition, since they receive the answers, they do not ask anymore, but just receive what teachers teach.
Third, Korea’s education cause students learn many bad behaviors. students copy and paste from the internet resources. Since the assignments are not what they feel interested, they want to skip the learning part. Moreover, the convenience of internet helped students find the references easy and they just submit what they found. This is stealing of knowledge from other people’s work. Not just from internet, students learn bad behavior from schools too. They learn to cheat and lie; they learn how to have best result with the easiest way.
In conclusion, education system has a lot of bad sides. They teach all the same thing and let students have less creativeness, have passive attitude, and learn bad behaviors. While it is true that compulsory education in Korea is effective however, it must also be argued that Korea’s education has a lot of bad sides. We have to improve the creativeness and to fix passive attitude. We have to reduce mandatory subjects such as mathematics, science and society, because students in Korea have studied a lot of subject that they do not want to study. They do not ask a question, and do not understand the principles; therefore they memorize all of things. We must lead students to ask a question in order to fix passive attitude and to understand the principle. And we must stop to learn bad behaviors. Students do nat want to study compulsory subject, so they will find easy way to get good grade, so they learn to cheat, fake, and lie. If the students study the subject which they want to, they will not find easy way in order to get good grade, therefore students stop to cheat, fake, and lie.
