It is important for children to learn the difference between right and wrong at an early age. Punishment is necessary to help them learn this distinction.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
What sort of punishment should parents and teachers be allowed to use to teach good behaviour to children?
It is a common belief that punishment is a useful tool to educate children about misbehaviour and there are disputes about the punishments that children should take when they conducted wrong behaviour. However, I firmly believe that it is not mandatory to teach kids about the distinction between right and wrong. Furthermore, and there are several punishments that family members and teachers can use to guide them to a better path.
To begin with, harsh punishments can bring negative impact on young children’s emotional development and they tend to become more violent when they grow up. For instance, punishments which are physical such as hitting can create anger. This is because usually, kids are not given the time to think about the wrongdoings that they committed, rather, they are being punished straightaway. In this case, without acknowledging the reasons behind, they will find difficulties in accepting the punishments. As it turns to anger, there is a high tendency for them to become violent and in the worst case, bullying occurs which is another misbehaviour.
Nevertheless, certain levels of punishments play a significant role to children’s actions and the best way is through making them clean cleaning or sending them to detention class. It is essential to protect the privacy of kids and provide the environment which they can reconsider about the causes of it. Although they misbehaved, when they are being penalised, they should be in a private place. As an example, in a situation that a the student conducted wrong doings such as smoking, and the teacher wishes to punish him. If, if he or she is are being scolded in front of classmates, it is likely that the they he/she becomes insulted and harassed. Meanwhile, In fact, when they are sent to detention class where the time is provided for them for self-reflection, it gives opportunities to analyse what they have done or even plan for the future to stop the wrongdoings.
To sum up, penalising children is not always compulsory for parents and teachers to give the knowledge about manners. When it is unavoidable, utilising detention class or allocating cleaning job will be useful and effective.
