Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today's world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
While it is important to have a balanced education, students are commonly required to choose a path between humanities and sciences. Ultimately, science and technology are more important school subjects than history. Growing up in Korea, student had to choose between liberal arts or general science courses at high school. This meant that from year 11, students who chose liberal arts would not have a change to further their education in science. Knowledge of history is important; we learn from the past. However, I don't think that History is the "most" important school subject.
First of all, we are living in fast-paced IT generation, Our lives are linked to computers everywhere we go, whether it be for work or study. During COVID-19 crisis, many people surprised that current developments allowed us to be able to work and study from home.
Additionally, this made social distancing and self-isolation a lot easier. The difference in our society's response to this crisis would be unimaginable if we did not have a strong focus on the studies and development of science and technology.
Secondly, science is inherent to our lives and relates to many different area of our lives. As such, there are more job opportunities in science fields and theses attracts higher salaries: for instance doctors, engineers and data scientists, as opposed to history academics.
To summarise, nowadays learning science and technology is more practical considering the world's current movements. Thus, in my opinion in today's world. Science and Technology are more important and useful.
