Some assert that people nowadays are becoming rely on each
other through their family or community, however, others believe that individuals
tend to have independency from the group they belong to. In this essay, I will
state both views as well as my personal statement.
To begin with, because of the increased nuclear family in modern society, the family members are more likely to put up with each other more than ever. The reason why is that many individuals are only children or they have only one or two siblings in their family and this is much smaller size of the family unit compared to the large family in the past. By encouraging and helping each other, the family members can have worthwhile achievements towards their goals. Moreover, there are various hazards and crimes toward young children around the community such as kidnapping, sexual harassment, and violent bullying. Therefore, family members try to avoid interacting with strangers and determined more by holding on to each other in the family.
On the other hand, as an advancement of economy and modern culture, society members are inclined to have financial freedom by gaining their own spaces. They also feel that they have been in a limited environment by living with other family members or friends so, want to be emancipated from people who are holding their back. Not only acquiring new personal spaces but also getting more opportunities to find themselves. Moreover, due to the rocketed Internet uses, the young generation has longer me-time they ever had and meanwhile they have gotten used to the alone time. In conclusion, although the change of family size could make dependency on a family, more and more young people these days would like to spend time individually and I believe that this would be a perfect occasion to build strong self-esteem by completing some personal projects without anyone’s assistances financially and mentally.
