1. Today, the library program is more about a multi-functional space than just a space for storing and reading books.
However, this This trend of change in library space has a side that hinders the integrity of each space.
To the question of how the Doan Library should establish itself in the changing flow of library space, this project tried to find the answer in terms of completeness and overlap. Program spaces as objects with completeness are constructed in a way that they were independent, separated or overlapped to form a relationship. In this process, both the interior and exterior spaces provide various movement lines and sequences. Users can experience these spaces and understand the building as a whole and feel the multi-functionality of the library as a
The overlapped spaces between each independent space serve as a place for transition space. Each of the independent masses serves(serve말고 다른 표현 쓸 수 있는게 있을까요? act 등도 가능하긴 한데, 그냥 space로 가도 무방해보입니다. 오히려 지금은 space를 대체할 필요가 있어보여요.) as a study room, children's library, information reading area, and data room. The overlapping spaces are composed of the courtyard, hall, core, employee entrance, and cafe which also exist as essential spaces in the library.
2. The site called Gangnam, where this building will be located, is a dense area where high buildings are concentrated. Therefore, when living inside, people can see others' other buildings well, but people cannot see their own buildings. The concept is like a Russian doll, Matryoshka, the place where people can see themselves as a duplicated image.
The exterior of the building is gridded so that it naturally permeates the surrounding context.
When entering the entrance, the space is compressed into a narrow and dark space, and then expanded visually and spatially as the escalator descended, expressing a different sense of density.(입구를 들어갈때, 좁고 어두운 공간으로 공간이 압축되었다가 에스컬레이터를 타고 내려오면서 시각적, 공간적으로 확장이 되게 함으로서 밀도감을 다르게 표현했다.) In addition, the floating boxes shown in the external image of Gangnam district were repeated inside the building. The intersection of introverted gazes that occur with the existence of these boxes increases visibility in the building by being able to grasp the place and type of programs where and what programs are. Also, it helps people to control the interference between each programs.(이러한 내향적인 시선의 교차로 인하여, 어디에 어떤 program이 있는지 파악이 가능해 건물 내에 가시성을 높여주고 program간 간섭을 control할 수 있다.)
The outermost layer is the space used as an office and is the most static place space in the building. The inner layer is used as a mixed layer as a space that can be used by the core and expanding inner and outer programs. The next layer is a space used as a gallery, and by emptying this space, the image of floating boxes can be emphasized. The innermost layer is a space used as an aquarium, and the space becomes more dynamic as it goes inside layer. Through this process, people can feel the relationship of various gazes due to the layers.
