For thousands of years, teachers have been are part
of our lives. Some opine that teachers should be responsible for teaching
manners and etiquettes to help students behave well. However, I strongly
disagree with this idea.
To begin with, academic subjects are the
most vital factors for students. In the competitive era of today, top colleges are
supportive to get careers that pay high wages. To enter good undergraduate schools,
students should gain good grades for their exams. In this regard, what teachers
focusing on improving academic performance, is very helpful for students because by
developing syllabus and curriculum, teachers can offer better methods for academic
skills.
On top of that, teachers have no time
to consider students’ behavior. Teachers are busy to handle a lot of tasks
regarding academic elements. They should prepare for the contents of the
subject and relevant materials. They also organize some activities to foster students’
interest. They should make feedback for students’ assignments and test questions.
If the responsibility to take care of children’s behavior is given to
teachers, teachers would be exhausted.
Finally, students cannot learn academic
matters in their family. Parents or relatives can teach students how to be
polite, but it is very hard to teach history and mathematics to their children.
This is because although they have wisdom when it comes to children’s lives,
they have lack of knowledge about the details of academic subjects.
Debates on teachers’ role have been
going on. However, I believe teachers should concentrate only on children’s
academic performance.
