There are mixed opinions on spending time and resources on preserving minor languages globally. Regarding this, some asser that it is just a waste of resources. However, I strongly believe that it is important for our future generation as well as our society. This is because language is related to culture and losing languages can make people confused. This essay will outline some reasons to preserve minor languages. To begin with, languages associate with cultures. When we learn other languages, we can realize it includes their historical and traditional culture. It is the reason why we cannot fully translate to another languages without understanding of their situation. Many literature and relics including their own languages reflect their national identity. It radically means their own authenticity. Therefore, it is evident that losing a language is losing one culture. In addition, some people think using several certain languages can make the world more simply. However it is impossible. If we use several certain languages, it can make global society more competitive. Because, people study a certain language really hard to win other people to get a job. It leads to fierce competition. For example, after using English more intensively in South Korea, the society has been more competitive and people overwhelmed by fierce stress. Therefore It cannot make world simple. It can make world just more unified without recognition of culture differences. Overall, languages reflect national identity. Therefore we have to respect compulsorily and preserve minor language for cultural diversity and their own authenticity ultimately. This is because languages irreplaceable with anything. |
