It is commonly believed that punishment is needed to teach young people what is right and wrong. However, in my part, no belief is more harmful now than that it is required for young students to be punished because their behaviors were not good.
The most significant reason why punishment is the worst method to teach children is that punishment is also violence. Any violence should not be involved in teaching children in educational environments because the disadvantages of hitting our kids outweigh its merits. The more we have allowed that punishment as is one of the educational methods, the more happened unexpected problems will occur be. For instance, it is more likely frequent punishments will to be linked to juvenile delinquency.
In my opinion, there are other ways to bring up our kids as rational and moral adults with our cultural property such as literature, history and art. By reading a classic novel, kids can indirectly experience the other people’s feeling and thoughts. In addition, teaching history helps young student to understand the results of right or wrong choices. Also, parents and teachers can provide to their young learners with many sorts of moral values such as love, tolerance and forgiveness through arts. In conclusion, without any punishment in childhood education environments, children are given the chance to recognize that what are is important and good values as well as the best ways how to say and behave.
For the reasons I mentioned above, I am absolutely disagree with that punishment is allowed to help children learn the distinction of right and wrong, because it affects on juvenile delinquency and there are other teaching methods.
