Q) Standardised testing is an effective way to assess students’ academic skills and abilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this idea?
It is common belief that standardized exam is not beneficial for evaluation students’ academic performance. However, I firmly belief that standardized testing is a best way because it is the most objective and precise test method for students’ ability assess.
To begin with, taking an official test would be effective because most teachers can assess every student’s academic ability with a rapid and objective way. A recent survey of students and teachers revealed that a majority of them consider the normal test into the better assess method than other assessment standards such as accomplishment evaluation. This is due to the fact students think that if all assignments are assessed by a performance assessment, teachers’ subjective view may be involved in it. In addition, most instructors said that normal testing is much more rapid and cost effective assessment method than other ways. This study offers strong proof that students and teachers are reckon that standardised testing is effective in terms of speed and objectivitiy.
In addition, the best way that can precisely evaluate each every person’s academic achievement is a taking formal exam because this does not allow a person to have a free ride. This is important because it allows a student to try one’s best to get a good score. For example, one study shows that adolescents put more effort into paper based official examines than team work assignments. Team work assignments tend to get the same score even if some people do not contribute to the assignmnet, which could be likely to make less effort to them. As a result, it would make the accurate assessment difficult of students due to a free ride of some people.
To sum up, it is clear that standardized testing is a greatly objective and accurate assessment method. For these reasons, taking an official test is necessary and useful.
