<Topic>“Your first impressions when
you meet someone are always right.” Do you agree with this statement? |
|||
It is no doubt that the first impression brings
a plethora of feelings to counterparts. Although many people believe that first
impressions definitely reflect people’s general characteristics, some people
do not agree with the statement. As I partly concur with both opinions, the supportive
ideas will underpin my viewpoint in this essay. On the
one hand, it is often believed that first impressions are comprised of one’s facial
expression, tone of voice, outfits and choice of words. These elements might
hard to figure out the deep inside of people’s mind, nonetheless, we are able
to roughly know how much a person put his efforts to deliver the positive impressions
in a good manner to other people. For example, if someone possesses the abrupt
facial expression and informal words to communicate with colleagues in a
business meeting, his business partners might consider him as an absurd and arrogant
person regardless of his real personality. The same reason can be mirrored in
job interviews because candidates are in business attire. It conveys not only
a good initial impression to the interviewers but also their contribution to
the companies. If an interviewee is in pajamas or sports outfits, people cannot
say that the applicant’s mindset well goes with the firm’s spirit. On the
flip side, firstly, I believe defining people’s personalities by only their initial
impression sometimes brings miscomprehension. With regard to service providers,
since they are trained to maintain modest attitudes and smiles in front of guests
to appeal to them, it is generally agreed that the impressions which they intend
to bring might not equal to their real characteristics. Secondly, I think we
should look out ourselves not to judge people with our own viewpoint. For
example, considering obese people, some people criticize those people who are
lazy and obsessed with eating. However, we might not know whether people in obesity
are suffering from certain ailments or not. Thus, appearance cannot be a
method to know the deep inside of other people. In
conclusion, even though I consider that initial impression is a critical
source to convey the good feelings to other people, I also would like to opine
that we should refrain from it as means of judging people’s real personality.
