Buying domestic
agricultural products may have good effects on the environment, but I assert
that consuming imported agricultural products are better because they are more inexpensive
and diversified.
Some people believe domestic agricultural goods have positive effects on domestic producers and the
environment. The Korean government gives the domestic crop producers an
appropriate amount of money to help them have a stable life by keep producing
their products and not be threatened by imported products. Having the capability
to produce its own country’s agricultural products is important because nobody
knows when the country won’t be able to import any of them. Also, since no international
transits would be needed, less carbon would be generated during the process,
which would help save the environment. That is why purchasing domestic agricultural
products are called a ‘green cycle.’
Notwithstanding,
as a consumer, I believe imported agricultural products are better because they
are cheaper. Even after considering the transporting costs, usually imported foods
are cheaper. I do not really care where the food is produced since the taste is
almost same to me, so I prefer inexpensive imported products. Furthermore, there
are more kinds of products to choose after importing. I wouldn’t be able to
have the same diet without imported products, especially the ones that cannot
be grown in Korea because of the weather.
In
conclusion, it is clear that buying domestic agricultural products has positive
influences, but I believe it is more persuasive that imported products are
better in a consumer’s aspect because more cheaper alternatives are indeed attractive.
