In this multifaceted society, some people
insist that the country where individuals are from is the representative of the
culture of them, whereas the others consider that the place of origin has
relatively less impact. This essay will explore two opposing views on such
issue and finalize with what I think.
Some people opine that what determines the
cultural background of a person is where he or she was born. For vast majority
of individuals, the most accustomed culture originates from the country of
birth. Since a different country has their own unique cultural heritage, at
first, it will be uncomfortable and overwhelming for individuals to embrace
such foreign cultures completely, compared to the sense of comfort back in their
home country. Besides, the foremost factor which significantly influences
people is the environment of their own country. In comparison to other factors
such as ethnicity and language, being in the environment of ones’ own nation is
the most effective way to be fit into a culture.
Nevertheless, I believe that the place of birth place
has less effect on deciding the culture of an individual. Not always the
country of origin fully represents the cultural background of all people. As
the concept of a culture is dependent on an array of factors, it is not
appropriate to conceptualize by a single one. In addition to this, each
individual sought to decide the culture that fully presents themselves. To give
an example, if an adolescent has lived in various countries worldwide for a
short period of time, he or she has the right to determine the culture of their
own regardless of whether its due to a language or a country where the individual
feels less alienated and marginalized.
To conclude, despite the reason that the
birth place could easily be understood and be the influential factor among the
others, I believe that rather than external factors, the culture solely depends
on what each individual thinks.
