Question : Governments should spend tax money on public libraries rather than public transportation improvements.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Some people believe that tax budget should be used for improving public transportation system rather than public libraries. However, contrary to this idea, it is clear that government should spend their money on public libraries because the libraries allows a lot of people to broaden their perspective and can help people using the facilities to relieve stress.
First of all, if government use the tax money for improving the quality of public libraries, a myriad of people can enjoy expanding their outlook. This is mainly because, if the tax money goes into buying more books, videos, and other materials which is full of knowledge, people have more chance to experience different thoughts and ideas that they have never known before by reading and watching various contents in the public facility. For example, according to a recent research at Seoul National University in Korea, education specialists responds that many children can experience intellectual growth and accept diversity, which is critical in an era of globalization, spending time on reading books and studying a variety of subjects in public libraries. This shows that public library plays a pivotal role in expanding people's horizons toward the world.
In addition, Using the public library is helpful for people to alleviate stress. This is due to the fact that the quite and peaceful atmosphere in the public library provides comfort places for people reading or studying at the library. Therefore, if the government spend more money on building more public libraries, more citizens can enjoy the benefits of up-to-date public facilities. For instance, my sister, an office worker, was extremely exhausted and stressed out because of excessive workloads. However, after she began to go to public library, she had a brief moment of relief from harsh reality. To be specific, she read books and newspapers, watched a movies in the public place, which made her feel better. In this sense, spending more tax money on public library can be justified.
Admittedly, some might argues that public transportation should be invested more by government rather than spending money on public library. However, based on the ideas mentioned above related to perspectives and stress, I personally think that tax money should be spent more on public libraries than public transportation development.
