It is a common belief that teenagers have advantages of doing part-time job while they are studying. However, I firmly believe that disadvantages outweigh over advantages because they can distract from their own learning and physical tiredness may negatively affect on school life.
On the one hand, adololescents can have variety of experiences during school period and this would help them think about what they want to do in their future or what job could fit for them. For example, a student who wants to open an Italian restuarant , he or she can try as a server and see how the management is going around at the restaruant. Despite of young age, this experience can give posive affect on deciding whether this part-time job would fit to him or her. In addition, teenagers can grow social ability by working together with staff and learn how to handle customer services or teamwork which is essential factor in every work place.
Nevertheless, young students can be distracted from their studying when they get part-time job and this cause them to lose their track on school curriculum. Plus, working after school makes them to tired physically so that they cannot focus on the lesson or school life. For example, one of my friend in high school, she worked at Burger King as a part-time after school from 7pm to 10pm every day. Even though getting a part-time job finanially helped her, she slept in the classroom almost every day and could not get a good credit which impacts on entering a university. Even, there was no time to spend time with her friends. This led to lacking of socializing with classmates.
To sum up, while there are some advantages to working as part-time job for teenagers,it is evident that there are more disadvantages to having a part-time job for young students. |
