Modern computers and mobile phones are made easy to use, and the users are able to perform many more tasks on those devices than in the real world environment. This convenience might lead them to a lack of communication opportunities and writing abilities, but I personally believe that this assumption is a misunderstanding of the initial purpose of the technology utilization.
Naturally, any portable and interactive devices increase the chance of connecting with others although it is not the real world communication. Actually, communication nowadays has a broader meaning than ever before and usually depends on the context, not the text in itself, where people are currently in. What they write is more important than how correctly they write because it can make their interaction literally understandable. Then, their writing ability would not be a matter.
In a similar way, computers and the similar devices enable people to do multitasking. This means that they can make a communication while performing difficult tasks that requires focused energy. By using one device, they can make a time and energy efficient interaction because they do not have to switch anything or change their location to actually reach others to deliver their instant messages. Instead, they might have to do even more writing to make it effective.
Here and there, using portable computers does not necessarily worsen one’s writing ability, and rather, it has more advantages. Without troubles in literacy, it can create many communications communicating and writing opportunities that are rare for modern people to have. |
