We live in a flood of overwhelming international news. A fair number of the populations assert that it would be better to add international news to the regular curriculum for adolescents, and some say that it is unnecessary. This essay will discuss both sides of the argument in detail and provide my opinion as to why teaching international news is beneficial to young students.
In the first place, the number of subjects that students need to study is already more than enough. Besides, opening a new course can be an academic burden for students when the information they need can be fully provided with existing subjects. According to a survey, most high school students spend at least 7 to 9 hours a day studying major subjects such as English, mathematics, and science. Overall, adding a new subject in the current education system can bear a physical and mental burden.
On the flip side, in order to adapt to the rapidly changing times, if we provide various information of events that happen around the world from time to time to students who only study in a school like a babe in the woods, they may not have trouble keeping up with the trend once they launch into the real world. On top of that, as foreign news deals with various issues such as politics, economy, society, environment, and culture, it is possible to consolidate smaller subjects together in one class, saving time for students and money for schools.
In conclusion, I strongly agree with the latter opinion; adopting news from overseas as one of the main subjects will eventually reduce students’ academic pressure by integrating many subjects into one. Furthermore, it will be an excellent opportunity to broaden their knowledge of the world in advance.
