answer>
It is commonly said that there is a only reason for learning an another language, such as to travel or work in a foreign country. However, I think there is a more persuasive argument that others prefer to learn foreign language not for their living or needs, but for their sincere interest and enthusiastic. This is becuase they want to fully understand the meaning of their favorite things.
On the other hand, most people believe that it is essential to speak and understand a foreign language while they travel or go business because they see most people in their country only speak mother tongue. For example, unlike the United States and Canada where various continents of immigrants made up the society, in South Korea, most citizens speak only Korean and they try to learn another language only if they are planning to travel abroad or to work in a foreign country. On top of that most companies require English test score before getting a job, but once they got hired as an employee, they did not have to use English.
Nevertheless, many people study a foreign language these days because they have a true interest. Some people start learning about other country or language by listening to music or watching movies. For example, when I was in middle school, some of my classmates prefer to study Japanese just because it is their favorite animation. They studied hard to try to understand every details and meaning of the animation. Since many people go into international films, actors, and songs due to development of technologies, it is popular to learn a foreign language nowadays. It is human's normal instinct to take deep interest when they have true fixation with their favorites.
To sum up, while it is apparent that many people only study when they need such as travel or work in a foreign country, nevertheless, some people learn a foreign language just because of their sincere interest. For these reasons, I personally think that there are much more reasons to study another language in today's interconnected society.
