In regards to globalization effect, I strongly agree
that the trend has brought negative consequences in our society. While some
assert that the phenomenon has positive aspects of different cultures to become
alike, reduced cultural characteristics happen in languages and almost all of
entertainment industries.
To begin with, globalization has a great impact on
reducing the use of different languages. In order to communicate with people
from different countries, people have started to use one common language,
English, and its convenience affects the usage of their original languages.
According to research conducted by Korea University, total number of distinct
languages over the world in 2015 has been reported as less than hundred, which
was twice as large a century ago. Therefore, it is evident that globalization
and the massive use of English make a reduction of people preserving their own
languages.
Furthermore, the loss of cultural diversity exists in
a wide range of entertainment industries. Hollywood movie companies with their
big budgets dominate the whole movie industry over the countries. For example,
the Korean movie industry has fought to keep their own movies from outsiders
for years. Similarly, music industry become in the same situation. Thus, it is
true that globalization threatens the individual identities of various
cultures, especially in entertainment industries, as companies want to profit
more by providing the most popular contents to consumers.
In conclusion, in my opinion, globalization has some
drawbacks affecting cultural diversity. Many languages have already
disappeared, and some industries are struggling to keep their uniqueness from a
massive inflow of dominant contents. |
