It is often argued that some students who finish their secondary education tend to travel or work rather than attend a university. While traveling or working is considered advantageous, that can have numerous negative influences. However, I believe that the benefits override the drawbacks.
To begin with, there are several disadvantages of this trend. First, extra planning is required. If students do not plan what to do after graduating high school, they are likely to waste his or her time during the period. Next, they can have difficulty in finding specialised jobs In this case, the professional jobs like doctor and pharmacist are usually needed high academic degree such as bachelor’s degree and master’s degree. Also, these jobs are accompanied by excellent pay packages. Thus, high-school graduates who do not want to extend their studies or to earn high salaries may not get these specialised jobs.
However, not all aspects of this trend are detrimental. First of all, they do not be stressful due to studying in heavy competition. After graduating, through various experiences like trip, they can broaden their horizon as well as refresh their mind. High intuition fees when students enter the university they have to pay do not burden them. In addition, different activities make students’ CVs look impressive : For example, participating in volunteer work in other countries or internship can build student’s career. The previous work experience can lead to high salaries.
In conclusion, even though there are several drawbacks to travel or work compared to attending the university, it is my belief that the benefits override its drawbacks to graduates.
