Some
people believe that school children should not be given homework by their
teachers, whereas others argue that homework plays an important role in the
education of children. Discuss both of these views and give your own opinion.
With increasing attention
about education, there are some debates about needs of children’s homework. While
some advocators argue that homework is beneficial for children’s academic achievement,
I think giving homework to students is giving burden to them.
Admittedly,
homework is one of the good ways to help student’s scholar development. Students
can revise and apply what they learned in school by doing homework. For
example, when I was in high school, my science teacher made me to take a mini
test about chapter I studied on that day as homework. By doing it, I was able
to revise the information and figure out what I didn’t understand fully and needs
more study. Also, educators can teach students beyond limited time of class through
giving them homework.
However,
the thing is that students are already overwhelmed by the amount of study they
are required to do. Students spend nearly one-third of a day in school. For instance,
in Korea, high school students spend 8 hours in school and some schools force
them to study until late night after school. This large amount of study gives
them huge stress. Moreover, there are some important parts in adolescent such
as friendship and physical and mental health, other than getting a high score.
To sum up, although doing homework
can help develop student’s academic skill, they already devote enough time on studying
and adding more task on them is critical to their mental health and overall growth.
Therefore, I believe that teacher should not give students any homework.
