I profoundly believe
that charging admission fee for museums to people is worth taking for three
reasons which are practical, psychological and administrative.
For the practical reason, it is quite natural
that we pay for the services we want. The people who want to see and feel the
precious legacy of our history should pay for their pleasure. And we can easily
expect that, our admission fee to museums will return to us in the near future
through better services, advanced programs, and high-quality of exhibitions.
Thus, like the other social advantages we are ensuring through paying a taxes,
if we pay for museums, we can get the rewards.
Secondly, for the psychological reason, the
grade and class of museum is not only determined by the materials they preserve
but the audience they hold. The admission fee, which is not so burdening to
ordinary citizens, can function as a barrier that only the people who will show
their respect to museum will enter and share the museum with the people with
that respect. And this kind of psychological agreement will promote the enthusiasm
to our arts and history among citizens making the general progress in the area
of our culture.
Lastly, for administrative reason, we can
minimize the disadvantage through optional museum administration. While
securing two major advantages I mentioned right before, by adopting optional
free admission course to the people in need of economic aid or the students who
are in the middle of education course, we can make our museums open to the vast
majority of our society. And if there is a voice of widening the free admission
to some special group of people, we can discuss about that issue with open mind
without hesitation.
In conclusion, with these three practical,
psychological and administrative reasons, I agree with the opinion that
charging admission to museum has more advantage then disadvantage.
