It is a common belief that paper books or newspapers will
obsolete and be replaced with complimentary online reading materials, in the
future. And there is also a more persuasive argument that paper books and
newspapers will last since they have other values which will be discussed
below.
To begin with, some people argue that individuals will
choose to go online to access information which is offered for free rather than
purchase books or newspapers at shops since it is economical not to mention
more diverse. For example, the sales of printed newspapers have plunged
significantly since smartphones became essential to people’s lives. Moreover,
there are more choices on the net from local news outlets to global news
outlets. Hence, It seems inevitable that printed newspapers will be phased out
eventually.
On the other hand, people will still appreciate and keep buy
tangible paper books as they are easier to focus on and can be revised again
and again. For instance, when students study with e-books for exams they can be
easily distracted by other features of smartphone or tablets such as surfing
the internet or watching Netflix, and which resulted in not getting their job
done. Therefore, students or academics who need to focus on studies without
distraction will buy printed books for better result.
To conclude, even though more and more people will opt for
online reading materials over printed ones because they are economic and
accessible, however, I strongly believe that printed books will not disappear
but continue thanks to its advantages such as effectiveness in focusing and
obtaining knowledge.
