In many cases, children inherite parents' career instead of pursuing different jobs. Clearly, they do that due to certain advantages; however, I strongly believe no advantages override the benefits of choosing their own career to fulfill their potential talents.
One of the advantages of following a parents' job could be that people can receive information about the field easily. From their parents, they can acquire working principles, work customs and some wisdoms to deal with adverse situations. For example, one of the famous doctor in Korea confessed his mentor was his father who was also an excellent doctor. He mentioned that he was inspired by his father's attitude of caring about patients and discussed difficult patients' cases with him.
However, I still believe the disadvantage of losing a chance of fulfilling their potential outweigh the advantages. People should select their own career of interests and capabilities. Many people have tastes and talents that are different from their parents'. If they just follow their parents' career path, they would regret eventually, losing an opportunity to fulfill their potentials. According one news article covering a minister's story who decided his job opposing his parents' expectation of becoming a lawyer, both of whom were lawyers themselves, said he was satisfied with his life, helping people in a way he had always dreamed of. If he had chosen the same job as his parents, he would not feel rewarded as now.
In sum, even though there are advantages of selecting the same career as parents, choosing their own career is worth more than that. That is because they can fulfill their potentials and recieve rewarding feelings as a result.
