[서론]
It is a common belief that media not only
has affected society in a positive way but also has made culture diverse by
providing mass with a variety of information. However, I firmly believe that media has a negative influence on society by misusing information and culture has been become uniform because of its negative characteristics such as being commercial.
[본론]
To begin with, since media can have a significant effect on
people, it would lead to misunderstanding due to wrong information. Take an example of South Korea. In 2008,
the mass media conveyed wrong information to the public that American beef
caused a serious disease and Koreans were susceptible to this one genetically.
As a result, many Korean people believed that information and protested against
importing American beef. Some of them even raised a riot and it caused many
social issues. However, there is no one who has been affected by this disease
until now.
On top of that, media is influenced by the company and public
preference because its basic feature is commercial, so it has to focus on
commercial programs and major trends. Although media has this characteristic
naturally, it causes to exclude minor cultures. For example, a Korean audition program
called Superstar K had become a sensation in 2010, and then many audition
programs were made by a lot of broadcasting stations. Therefore, these
entertainment programs accounted for many broadcasting programming, but any
minor programs like history or science documentaries got rid of that.

To
sum up, even though media has positive effects, its drawbacks outweigh them
such as misusages and commercial features of media. |
