In many countries around the world, shopping has turned into a form of entertainment rather than a way of getting what people need. Is it a positive or negative development?
It is undeniable that people’s awareness of shopping in the whole world has turned from a way of buying stuffs only when they need into a form of pastime. In my opinion, there are both positive and negative effects.
On the one hand, there are two several reasons why shopping for recreational purposes has positive effects on people. Firstly, individuals like workers and students are already under enough pressure with their work and studies, but by shopping on their days-off and weekends, they can recharge their batteries and relieve stress. In addition, unlike other dangerous and harmful or harmful entertainments like hunting wild animals and playing online games, shopping just in the department stores or large supermarkets can be seen as a safe form of entertainment that there is no likelihood that gets injured.
In spite of positive effects described above, a change of people’s shopping habit to entertainment that buys something just to relish their lives are likely to have a detrimental effect. If people make a purchase something as a form of entertainment instead of buying what they necessarily need could lead to impulsive shopping. In this respect, they are prone to squander money during shopping. For instance, there are some people who use delivery applications like Coupang and Gmarket. This kind of people at first just utilizes these applications to buy something they need, but at some point, they find that they are using applications to relieve the boredom. After all, it leads to haphazard shopping.
In conclusion, it seems to me that it is of course good for people to shop to deal with their stress, but there are some negative aspects of shopping for entertainment.
