There have been a lot of arguments about
whether students should get part-time jobs or not. Many people state that they
should not work and focus on their schools. However, I have to say that the
advantages of teenagers working outweigh the disadvantages.
The people who does not support teenagers
working might argue that they can get behind at schools. The more work they do,
the less time they have for study, and it can lead to poor performances in
school. For example, the study shows that the students in need tend to have lower
grades because they have to get part-time jobs to make money. It clearly shows
that students having job can have negative impact on them.
On the other hand, if students are
encouraged to work, they can have better social skills. By working, they can
meet various of people, even more various than in school, and learn to
cooperate with them from early age. Moreover, the environment in a workplace
can be much more different than school, which is tighter and more formal. By
conflicting in many different situations and overcoming them, they can learn to
adapt and cooperate. Beside the fact that they can learn social skills, there
is an obvious advantage which is that they can earn their money on their own.
Making money may be the toughest challenge they will face in the future.
However, as they make money from an early age, it should be easier and more
convenient for them when they grow up. In addition, there is the satisfaction
they can get from earning their own allowances by themselves.
In conclusion, although there are many
disadvantages in encouraging teenagers to get part-time jobs, there are also
significant number of advantages, such as learning social skills and making
money on their own.
